A New Short Story, Essay, and More!

If you’re looking for some short reads, I’ve got some for you.

y450-293For e-book fans: My short e-story WAKING KYLIE is available now, and features an exclusive excerpt from THE WIFE. After losing a criminal case, a prosecutor is forced to ask herself how far she’s willing to go to protect the young girl whose future hangs in the balance. Included is a cameo from a Portland prosecutor, whom some of you may recognize.

For some online, holiday-themed reading: In the holiday spirit, the nice people at BookReporter.com asked me to kick off their Holiday Author series. I wrote about spending time with my mother and a special present from my father. I hope you enjoy it!

In other news, EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE is available on bookshelves nationwide. Thank you for making it a bestseller on numerous lists, including the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal.

Mark your calendars for the release of THE WIFE,  January 23!
When two women level troubling accusations of sexual misconduct against renowned economist and public intellectual, Jason Powell, his wife, Angela, is torn between defending her husband and saving herself. As Jason’s life unravels, Angela is faced with an impossible choice: will she stand by her husband at the risk of exposing a dark and secretive past?

I am so eager to share this story with you, especially in light of the current wave of sexual assault allegations. You can learn more about THE WIFE and pre-order here

EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE, the fourth book in the Under Suspicion series, is now available!

Sharing this series with Queen of Suspense Mary Higgins Clark has been an honor and a blast as a writer, and this book is especially close to my heart. Laurie Moran and her Under Suspicion team are investigating the unsolved Met Gala murder—in which a wealthy widow was pushed to her death from the Met’s rooftop during its star-studded party of the year.

As some of you know, my husband works at the Met, so you might find a fun Easter egg or two waiting on the pages.

THE WIFE is up next, on shelves January 23 in the US.  Learn more about THE WIFE here.

Two New Books

I’ll have two new books in stores before you know it.

THE WIFE, out January 23 in the US, is about a wife torn between defending her husband and saving herself after two women level troubling accusations against her husband.  As you read, you might be reminded of other wives thrown under the harsh glare of a spotlight because of their husband’s scandals, but Angela Powell has an especially powerful motive to protect her husband, Jason, a brilliant economist and cultural lightning rod.  For Angela, marriage was a chance to start a new life.  Her loyalty threatens to unearth a tragic past that she has tried desperately to bury.

In the meantime, EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE, the fourth book in the Under Suspicion series, will be out November 7.  Sharing this series with Queen of Suspense Mary Higgins Clark has been an honor and a blast as a writer, and this book is especially close to my heart.  Laurie Moran and her Under Suspicion team are investigating the unsolved Met Gala murder—in which a wealthy widow was pushed to her death from Met’s rooftop during its star-studded party of the year.  As some of you know, my husband works at the Met, so you might find a fun Easter egg or two waiting on the pages.

I hope you’ll allow both Angela and Laurie to keep you company this fall and winter.  You can learn more about the books, and pre-order, here (The Wife) and here (Every Breath You Take).

I am beyond thrilled that THE EX has been nominated for an Edgar Award for Best Novel. The Edgar Award, named for Edgar Allan Poe, is awarded by The Mystery Writers of America to honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film, and theater.  This is especially delicious news, because so many of my talented, supportive friends are also nominated this year.

Winners will be announced on April 26 at a banquet in New York City. That’s going to be quite the party!

You can see the full list of nominees here.

In other EX-related news, THE EX was also named a Best Book of 2016 by the Boston Globe and a biggest thriller of 2016 by Book Bub.

And the New England Law Review selected THE EX to serve as its centerpiece for an upcoming symposium, “The Novelization of the Criminal Justice System and its Effect on Pop Culture.” Open to public, Feb 9, 4-6 pm, 154 Stuart St, Boston, Mass.

THE SLEEPING BEAUTY KILLER: In stores November 15!

I am thrilled to announce that THE SLEEPING BEAUTY KILLER — the third installment in the Under Suspicion series, co-authored with Queen of Suspense Mary Higgins Clark — will be out November 15.  You can pre-order from your favorite retailer.

If you’ve read the series, you know the premise: Laurie Moran is the producer of Under Suspicion, a television show that re-investigates cold cases by re-enacting the events of the case with the cooperation of suspects who were never arrested or charged, but who have lived for years under a shadow of suspicion.  In her latest case, Laurie enters new territory when she agrees to cover the killing of famed philanthropist, Hunter Raleigh III.

Initially, the media called Hunter’s fiance, Casey Carter, “The Sleeping Beauty” because she claimed to be in a deep sleep at the time of his murder.  But when police discovered evidence to contradict her story, she was convicted of manslaughter and served fifteen years for the crime.  Casey claims to this day that she was wrongly convicted.

When Casey is finally released from prison, she finds that she is still living “under suspicion.” She hears whispers at the  store. She can’t get a job. Even her own mother treats her like she’s guilty. Her story attracts the attention of Laurie and her team—it’s Casey’s last chance to finally clear her name, and Laurie pledges to exonerate her.

Mary and I are having so much fun with this series. Laurie is such a smart, capable, likeable woman, surrounded by a terrific cast of characters, both at home and at work: her retired NYPD father, Leo; her young son, Timmy, who lost his father to a violent crime; her loyal assistant producer, Jerry, and assistant, Grace, who provide much needed comedic relief from their tough cases; her demanding boss, Brett; and, of course, Alex, whose role in Laurie’s life is….a work in progress.

If you haven’t taken the plunge into the series, I hope you will.  THE SLEEPING BEAUTY KILLER is a great place to start, but if you like to read in order, start with THE CINDERELLA MURDER and then move on to ALL DRESSED IN WHITE.  I hope you’ll be hooked!  I know I am.

Pre-order THE SLEEPING BEAUTY KILLER now.
